Welcome to The Center For Psychological Growth of New Jersey.

The Center is Dr. Robyn Koslowitz’s clinical practice. If a child’s challenges are clinical in nature, and don’t respond to pre-treatment intervention, such as Targeted Parenting™, The Center is here for that child and family.

Dr. Koslowitz’s PhD in psychology from New York University clearly reflects her commitment to providing cutting-edge, research based treatment to her patients. All associates hired by the center have similar credentials and training. There are many mental health professionals to choose from – choosing a practice run by a psychologist means choosing a practice where diagnostic excellence and a commitment to research-based practice is emphasized.

That’s the Center for Psychological Growth difference.

At the Center, we treat children, adolescents, young adults, and families whose clinical conditions are amenable to evidence-based treatment. Dr. Koslowitz and her associates are trained at the post-doctoral level in a variety of evidence-based practices, including but not limited to:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy (CBT- Play)

Psychological Evaluation:

Dr. Koslowitz and her associates specialize in psychological evaluation of children, adolescents and young adults.

If we don’t know what’s wrong, how can we fix it?

The goal of a psychological evaluation is to clarify exactly why a child is having difficulties in school, at home, or in the peer group, develop a treatment plan that is directly linked to those deficits, and to create recommendations for the school, the home (a “Parenting Plan”) and for therapy.

When a child is struggling, therapy and school interventions can sometimes feel like a shot in the dark. A therapist will try one approach, if it doesn’t work, the therapist will try another. Meanwhile, life is progressing and the child is falling further behind. Using a targeted diagnostic approach, this type of experimentation can be eliminated.

With a psychological evaluation, not only do we discover what’s “wrong” with the child, we also can discover what’s right with the child.

We want to know what this child’s strengths are, because we can use those strengths to ameliorate the child’s deficits.

Aside from intellectual assessment, neurodevelopmental assessment, projective assessment, and emergent personality assessment, the psychological evaluation we provide is much more detailed. We will assess the child’s learning style, processing preferences, motivational style, and emotion regulation style. For example, if a child is a visual learner, a purely language-based therapy is not going to be the most efficient way to help him learn. Social skills therapy using cartooning will be much more effective than standard models.

By the time the evaluation is complete, parents will have a comprehensive “User’s Manual” for this child.

This can inform the school, the parenting plan, and the various therapies a child may be benefitting from. Occupational, Physical, Speech, Behavioral, and Mental Health therapists have all provided feedback that this report is enormously helpful to them in their treatment planning.

Dr. Koslowitz and associates have extensive post-doctoral training in such measures as the:

Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS)

Developmental Neuropsychological Battery (NEPSY-II)

All Wechsler tests of IQ, Achievement, and Neurodevelopment

All Woodcock-Johnson tests of IQ, Achievement, and Neurodevelopment

Projective Assessment, including Rorschach with Exner Scoring, Thematic Apperception Test, Children’s Apperception Test, and many other tests of emergent personality

The Millon family of personality and personality pathology tests (M-PACI, MACI, MCMI)

… And many other psychological evaluation tools.

The Center for Psychological Growth has a state-of-the-art testing room, including a one-way glass window with auditory observational capacity, so that two psychologists can simultaneously observe a child. One psychologist can be engaged in a testing task, while the other can observe through the window, providing a second opinion.

The Center also provides evaluations for adults, such as personality assessment and bariatric surgery pre-certification testing.
